How engineering apprenticeships can help to build a successful business future
A workplace apprenticeship involves young people achieving qualifications through knowledge and experience gained during working in a related job. Training apprenticeships give young people the skills and knowledge that they need both for personal development and also development in a chosen career.
Businesses who hire apprentices to learn in the workplace can soon see the benefits. Training apprenticeships can work for both the company looking to hire new staff and young people looking for a practical job where they can earn money and learn new skills during their college studies.
The benefits of training an apprentice
- Apprenticeships can help to secure the future of businesses which rely on a skilled work force in order to be a success. Businesses which take on apprentices can be confident that they are creating a skilled, loyal and healthy workforce for the future. These employees will be fully trained and available should a member of staff leave the company.
- Apprentices are likely to stay on at a company once their training is over and this can help to create a loyal and committed workforce.
- Businesses which participate in an apprenticeship scheme can ensure they will have an employee who has been trained in the specific requirements of the industry sector and have a detailed understanding of a business's unique workplace conditions.
- There can often be a shortage of qualified staff for certain industries, particularly those industries which require very specific skills such as many engineering roles. Apprentices can learn the exact skills a company requires as they will learn them as they do the job.
- Businesses can experience the benefits of increased productivity from the very start of the apprenticeship scheme as the apprentice will work while they learn.
An apprenticeship success story
Hebble Hydraulics successfully recruit apprentice
College student Jordan Brown has secured an apprenticeship at Hebble Hydraulics. Hebble specialise in providing hydraulic cylinder and accumulator services. Jordan will learn the skills needed to be a successful member of the hydraulic cylinder manufacture and repair team at Hebble, under the expert guidance of Production Manager Lee Conroy.
Hebble Director, Brian Conroy had noticed a downturn in the number of engineering companies who were recruiting apprenticeships and saw a chance for Hebble to help reverse this trend whilst providing valuable industry knowledge to a young individual. Hebble recognised the shortage of good, skilled workers in the hydraulics industry. Brian said, "Hydraulic cylinder manufacturing and repairs requires specialist skills which can really only be gained through learning on the job which is why Hebble have invested in Jordan's future and it will also help with the future success of the company."
Businesses need expert staff to be able to produce the best service for their customers and through the forward thinking of the training management at Hebble, the company is securing the highest quality staff for the future. Jordan begins work at Hebble in the New Year and will be welcomed as part of the hydraulic cylinder repair and manufacturing team.
